
CHARLOTTE, N.C. —The unemployed and underemployed, particularly in west Charlotte, has been a concern for Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield.
At the beginning of the year shortly after she was elected, Mayfield said, “I started reaching out to Jerry Orr and having conversations and dropping the seed to say what would it look like for the airport to have a local job fair?”
A few weeks ago, Mayfield said airport staff told her they were able to compile a list of dozens of opportunities to present at a job fair that’s now set for next week in west Charlotte. An airport representative said 15 employers are looking to fill more than 60 positions in retail, ground transportation, airline services, and food and beverage.
