“We are excited to host our second conference and race weekend in the ‘Queen City,’” said Toni Carey, co-founder of Black Girls RUN! “Not only is Charlotte home to one of our largest groups, the city has so much to offer in terms of entertainment and attractions to make it the perfect place for a ‘girls weekend.’”

“I am truly excited of the work of Black Girls RUN!, and happy that Charlotte is chosen to host their 2013 conference and run.” comments Charlotte City Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield.

The Westin Charlotte, a Starwood Hotel, will serve as the official host hotel. Event Marketing Services, Inc., whose flagship event is the Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon, will produce the road race.

“This event will be bigger and better than last year,” said Ashley Hicks, co-founder of Black Girls RUN! “We’ve added an additional day of workshops, a larger expo, a broader range of activities and well-known speakers.  We also have a few special surprises.”

Information and early registration for the entire weekend will be released on April 1. The conference will be open to Black Girls RUN! members and women who are interested in attending. Everyone is invited to attend the dinner and participate in the road race.

This is the second year Black Girls RUN! is hosting a race and conference weekend. Last year, in Atlanta, Black Girls RUN! partnered with AARP, and presenting sponsor Coca-Cola to host its inaugural Black Girls RUN! and AARP Drive to End Hunger 5K/10K race. Last year’s race and conference attracted more than 3,500 men and women to participate in the event.
